UConn, Arizona to Face Off in NCAA Final Four

SAN ANTONIO – The top-seeded and top-ranked UConn women's basketball team (28-1) competes in its 13th straight NCAA Final Four against No. 3-seed and 11th-ranked Arizona (20-5) in the Alamodome Friday at 9:30 p.m. ET. The game will air on ESPN and 97-9 ESPN.

UConn is competing in its record 13th-straight and 21st overall Final Four. The Huskies are 11-9 all-time in the Final Four. UConn's first appearance came 30 years ago in 1991.

UConn gutted out a 69-67 win over second-seeded Baylor in the Elite Eight on Monday. Freshman Paige Bueckers posted 28 points while junior Christyn Williams scored 21. UConn trailed going into the fourth quarter, but the Huskies used a 19-0 run over the third and fourth quarters to take the lead. Junior Olivia Nelson-Ododa had eight points and five blocks vs. the Lady Bears.

UConn is 1-0 all-time vs. Arizona. The Lady Bears have won the last two meetings between the teams. The teams' only other meeting came in the 1998 NCAA Sweet Sixteen, which UConn won 74-57. Arizona head coach Adia Barnes played for the Wildcats in the game.

No. 3-seed Arizona advanced to its first-ever Final Four with a 66-53 win over fourth-seeded Indiana in the Mercado Regional. Pac-12 Player and Defensive Player of the Year Aari McDonald leads the Wildcats with 20.3 points per game, 107 assists and 67 steals. Barnes is in her fifth season.
