Player of the Week
Casey Dana, Seton Hall, Sr., DH (Montgomery, N.Y.)
Seton Hall senior DH Casey Dana batted .462 (6-for-13) with a home run, three doubles, six RBI and four runs scored in a 3-1 week for the Pirates in a league-opening weekend at home against Butler. Dana earned a hit in every game, two multi-hit and multi-RBI performances. His slugging for the weekend of .923. With the score tied at 4-4, Dana delivered a bases clearing, two-run double in the bottom of the seventh putting the Pirates ahead for good, 7-4, in Saturday’s finale. Butler had won the earlier game, by the same score. The victory won the series for SHU. In the first game on Friday, after Butler plated the game’s first run in the top of the third, Dana responded with his first double of the series that plated a run and tied the game at 1-1. SHU won the game 3-2 in seven.  
 
Pitcher of the Week
Ben Casparius, UConn, Jr., RHP (Westport, Conn.)
UConn junior righty Ben Casparius repeats as BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week after he produced a 15-strikeout, seven-inning complete-game shutout win for the Huskies. Casparius limited to Georgetown to just five hits in 110 pitches behind 10 runs from the UConn offense. During his appearance, he walked only one batter. The win was the first for UConn in league play since rejoining in the summer of 2020.  
 
Honor Roll
Kyler Fedko, UConn
Fedko batted .700 (7-10) in a 3-0 week for UConn. He tallied five RBI with six runs scored, two triples. He went 3-for-4 in the non-conference win, 9-8, over Bryant.
Alan Roden, Creighton
The Bluejay rookie helped Creighton to a three-game sweep of Villanova to open the season as he sent in nine RBI with a .417 average (5-for-12). Roden crossed the plate five times with three doubles and a home run and a .917 slugging percentage. He delivered RBI doubles in the third and fourth innings of the opener. In the second game, Roden smashed a three-run homer in the seventh, an RBI single in the first, a two-run double in the third and an RBI walk in the eighth. CU defeated VU, 9-2, 10-0 and 8-0.
Jonah Smith, Creighton
Creighton’s senior righty tossed an eight-inning complete game, facing just two over the minimum (26) in a 10-run shutout victory over Villanova. Smith limited the Wildcats to just three hits while striking out eight. He struck out the side in the final frame after allowing two hits.
Ian Murphy, St. John’s
Murphy struck out a career-high 11 batters in seven innings of work on Saturday against Xavier. He allowed just one earned run, three hits and walked three. Murphy had a no-hitter into the fifth.
Natale Monastra, Xavier
Monastra helped the Musketeers to a 2-1 series win over St. John’s as he batted .455 (4-for-11) through the St. john’s series, collecting a hit in each game. Monastra also scored three runs, all in the series finale that secured the series win, and collected three RBI through the weekend. He also walked three times finishing with a .571 on-base percentage.
