BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week
Kaitlin Mattera, St. John's, Grad., C
Mattera led the BIG EAST in batting average with a .667 clip last week, while ranking second in slugging percentage (1.250), on base percentage (.692) and home runs (2). In the three-game series at Creighton, the graduate student recorded multiple hits in each game, including what proved to be the game-winning home run on Saturday in Game 1 of the series. Her 15 total bases on the week also led the BIG EAST.
BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week
Paige Rauch, Villanova, Sr., P/1B
Rauch went 3-0 with a 0.74 earned run average last week, collecting wins over Delaware State, Penn and BIG EAST foe DePaul. The senior struck out 25 and shutout two of the three opponents. In Tuesday’s win over Delaware State, Rauch struck out nine and allowed just one extra base hit in 5.0 innings of work. She followed that with nine strikeouts against local foe Penn on Wednesday in a 2-0 victory, before closing out the weekend in impressive fashion against the Blue Demons. Against DePaul, Rauch struck out seven in 7.0 innings of work, not allowing an extra base hit in the 3-0 victory on Saturday. Opponents batted just .154 on the week. Rauch led all BIG EAST pitchers in ERA, opposing batting average, innings pitched (19.0), strikeouts and wins last week.
BIG EAST Softball Weekly Honor Roll
Kiara Mills, Creighton, So., INF – batted .444 with three home runs and five RBI in 2-1 series win over St. John’s; slugging percentage (1.444) and homers (3) led all BIG EAST players last week
Angela Scalizitti, DePaul, Sr., OF – batted .429 on the week with a double, three walks and an RBI; 2-for-5 with a double and two walks in a two-game series at Villanova
Ally Jones, Villanova, So., C – batted .400 in six-game week for the Wildcats, including a .600 clip in a series split with DePaul; three doubles and three walks
Krista Dalgarn, DePaul, Sr., P – went 1-1 on the week with a 1.83 ERA; picked up the win against NIU on Wednesday before striking out three at Villanova on Saturday
