Player of the Week
Devin Hack, Seton Hall, So., OF (Somerville, N.J.)
Seton Hall sophomore outfielder Devin Hack led the Pirates with a .462 average with six hits in a three-game sweep of Villanova over the weekend. Hack also drove in three runs, scored once and stole a base in three starts in the outfield. Hack delivered the go-ahead base hit on Sunday, the series finale, that scored two runs and put Seton Hall ahead, 3-1, securing the series sweep. The sophomore had an RBI single on Saturday in the second inning that put SHU up 4-0. Hack registered a career-high three hits in the series opener on Friday and finishes the series with two multi-hit games.
All three of his RBI came with two outs. Hack also did not commit an error and recorded seven putouts in left field.
Pitcher of the Week
Angelo Tonas, Georgetown, Jr., LHP (Hillsborough, Calif.)
Georgetown lefty Angelo Tonas picked up his first win in Friday’s series opener against St. John’s. Tonas pitched 7.0 innings with a 0.0 ERA and used just 92 pitches for a one-hit outing. Tonas struck out eight batters and did not allow a hit until the fifth innings. Only three St. John’s runners made it to the bases through the first seven frames in an eventual 5-1 victory for the Hoyas. Tonas had four perfect innings, striking out the side in the second and struck out at least one batter in six of his seven innings.
Honor Roll
Ryan Mantle, Creighton
In what turned out to be a two-game series against San Jose State this weekend, Mantle went 4-for-6 (.667) with three RBI and two doubles for a 1.000 slugging percentage. Creighton shutout SJSU 5-0 in Saturday’s opener, then 6-4 on Sunday.
Michael Eze, Georgetown
Eze batted .429 (6-for-14) with a .600 OBP in a 3-2 week for GU. Batting leadoff in the series win against St. John’s , he batted in five runs and had four hits while also walking four times. He had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored in a comeback win on Sunday to clinch the series victory. Scored the go-ahead run.
Zane Probst, Seton Hall
Made two appearances out of the bullpen and didn’t allow a hit or a run in 2.1 innings after facing eight batters. Helped secure the 1-0 shutout of Villanova on Saturday. In the series finale, got the final out in the seventh and worked a clean eighth for the Pirate win.
Ryan Altenberger, Xavier
Starting at shortstop in all four games in a 3-1 series against Butler, Altenberger went 5-for-12 (.417) at the plate, including four hits for extra bases, including his second triple of the season. He registered a .833 slugging percentage with four RBI and came around to score three times.
Nick Zwack, Xavier
Zwack went 7.0 innings in the Friday win for Xavier against Butler, allowing just one earned run on four hits. Zwack struck out five without issuing a walk. Xavier won 9-2.
