St. John's Simon, Villanova's Abbracciamento Share Men's Honors, St. John's Clocchiatti Is Women's Winner

NEW YORK – After earning medalist honors at their respective tournaments, St. John’s Jack Simon and Villanova’s Ambrose Abbracciamento will share BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week honors.  Simon has earned the weekly honor for a third straight week. On the women’s side, Cloe Clocchiatti shot under par in a tri-match to take BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week honors as the regular season comes to a close. 
 
BIG EAST Male Golfers of the Week                  
Jack Simon, St. John’s, Jr. – Simon shot a 6-under par 204 to win the Doc Gimmler, which was played at Bethpage Golf Club in Farmingdale, N.Y.  The junior shot 68 in all three rounds, while picking up his second first-place finish of the spring.  He is the first St. John’s golfer to win more than once in a season since current PGA professional Keegan Bradley won twice in 2013-14.  Simon led the Red Storm to their fourth straight team title.    

Ambrose Abbracciamento, Villanova, Sr. – Abbracciamento won the ABARTA Coca-Cola Invitational hosted by Lafayette.  He carded an 8-under 136 (70-66) on the par 72 course in Hellertown, Pa.  The senior recorded an eagle and five birdies in the second round on Monday.  His 66 is the lowest round by a Villanova golfer this season.  The Wildcats finished third in the team standings (+10) behind Lehigh (-2) and Rider (+6).

BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week
Cloe Clocchiatti, St. John’s, So. – Playing in the Fairfield Tri-Match, Clocchiatti shot a career-best 71 to finish in the runner-up position individually.  Her 1-under par score was a career best.  She was competing as an individual.  The Red Storm team placed second in the meet with a score of 311 (+23).

Women’s Notes – Xavier completed its regular season with a 13th-place finish at the Indiana Invitational, shooting a 54-hole total of 908 (+44).  Freshman Emma McMyler was the top Musketeer with an 8-over 224.  She shot even-par 72 in the final round.  Graduate student Mikayla Fitzpatrick was three strokes back at 227 (+11).

Men’s Notes – Hunter Eichhorn of Marquette continued his strong play this spring by recording an 8-under-par 208 (70-68-70) that placed him third at the Hawkeye Invitational.  The redshirt junior recorded his second top-five finish of the spring with three rounds of 70 or better. The Golden Eagles took third place in the team standings.  Creighton and DePaul also competed at the Hawkeye.  The Bluejays finished seventh and were led by Nate Vontz, who tied for ninth with three rounds of par or better.  The junior shot 72, 69 and 72.  As a team, Creighton had its best team score in relation to par (+13) since March of 2015.  The Blue Demons finished 12th in the team standings.  The top DePaul finisher was sophomore Artemiv Yalovenko, who tied for 33rd at 222 (+6).  He recorded a career-best round for the third time in the last five rounds with a 68.  Teammate Noah Kolar, also a sophomore, was a stroke behind Yalovenko with a 223 (+7)…Connecticut, Seton Hall and Georgetown played in the Rutherford Intercollegiate at Penn State.  UConn took sixth place with a team score of 865 (+13).  Freshman Caleb Daniel, who finished fourth individually with a 3-under 210, shot three rounds of par or better.  He posted his second straight top-five finish, which included a career-low round of 69.  For the Pirates, senior Gregor Tait was tied for 39th at 9-over 222 (72-73-77) with classmate Andres Acevedo one stroke behind at 223 (75-73-75).  The top Hoya performer was senior Matthew Barnes, who tied for 25th with a 219 (72-75-72)…Butler climbed five spots on the leaderboard during Monday’s final round of the Wright State Invitational, moving into sixth place in the 17-team field.  Senior Michael Cascino shot a 3-under 68, including six birdies, to finish in a tie for eighth at 217 (+4).  As a team, the Bulldogs posted a team score of 902 (+50).
