BIG EAST Male Athlete of the Week
Giuseppe De Camelis, St. John's, So. (Trani, Italy)
St. John's sophomore Giuseppe De Camelis helped the Red Storm go 3-0 to close out the regular season. De Camelis was perfect himself, taking all three singles matches that he played on the No. 4 court, while also picking up a doubles victory. On Tuesday, the Red Storm sophomore took his match against Temple in three sets, winning the first and final frames by scores of 6-0 and 6-2. Against Fordham on Saturday, De Camelis won easily, 6-0 and 6-2, while picking up another victory against NJIT on Sunday, 6-4 and 7-5. De Camelis closed out the 2021 regular season with a singles record of 12-1 and is 25-5 overall in his collegiate career.
BIG EAST Female Athlete of the Week
Anna Roggenburk, Xavier, So. (Avon Lake, Ohio)
Xavier sophomore Anna Roggenburk went 2-0 in the No. 1 spot over the weekend in a 5-2 win over Marquette. Roggenburk combined with Kaitlin Ruether to take the 6-3 win on the No. 1 doubles court to secure the doubles point. In singles action, Roggenburk battled through tiebreakers in the third set on the No. 1 court to pick up the final point, 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (3), to set the final score at 5-2.
Notable Performances:
- Butler freshman Natalie Boesing picked up two more wins at No. 1 singles. Against Louisville, she was the Bulldogs lone win, taking down the Cardinals in three sets (6-4, 7-6, 10-6). In BU's 4-3 win over Marquette, she won her flight, 6-0, 7-6 to tie the match at 3-3.
- Bulldog teammate Filip Tensing Tensing had the match-deciding win on Sunday as Butler took down Marquette, 4-3. The match was tied 3-3, coming down to the final No. 6 flight. Tensing had dropped the first set 3-6, but battled back for a 6-1, 7-5 victory in the second and third. The win gave the Bulldogs their second consecutive BIG EAST win.
- UConn rookie Aleksandra Karamyshev won her fifth straight singles match to defeat Providence's Emmie Lindolm, 6-0, 6-0. Also won her 10th straight doubles match, 6-0.
- DePaul grad student Christopher Casati clinched the match over Omaha for the Blue Demons with a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles.
- Providence sophomore Julia Migliorini had a dominant week for the Friars. Migliorini defeated her opponent from St. John's in three sets, 6-4. 4-6, 6-4 on the No. 1 court, and defeated her Holy Cross opponent, 6-0, 6-1. PC blanked Holy Cross, 7-0. Her only loss was to UConn.
- St. John's senior Gabriela Tenorio went 1-1. After losing her game to Stony Brook, she moved to the No. 2 court and defeated her opponent from Providence, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0.
