CAYCE, S.C. – The top four seeds on both the men’s and women’s brackets advanced after BIG EAST quarterfinal action at the Cayce Tennis and Fitness Center on day two of the 2021 BIG EAST Tennis Championship Presented by JEEP. Eight matches were completed on Friday.
 
In the women’s competition, No. 1 Xavier, No. 2 DePaul, No. 3 Villanova and No. 4 St. John’s each swept their opponents, No. 8 Marquette, No. 7 Butler, No. 6 Creighton and No. 5 UConn, respectively.
 
In the women's semifinals on Saturday, No. 1 Xavier will face No. 4 St. John’s, while No. 2 DePaul squares off against No. 3 Villanova.
 
The men’s competition began Friday with quarterfinal action as No. 1 DePaul swept No. 8 Georgetown, 4-0. No. 2 St. John’s moved on with a 4-1 win over No. 7 Xavier. In the evening session, No. 3 Marquette advanced with a win over No. 6 Villanova, 4-1. No. 4 Butler defeated No. 5 Creighton by the same score.
 
No. 1 DePaul will face No. 4 Butler, while the second men’s semifinal has No. 2 St. John’s against No. 3 Marquette.
 
Semifinal action at Cayce has been delayed by at least one hour for Saturday’s matches. The women’s matches will start at 10 a.m. ET instead of 9 a.m. and the men’s competition will begin at 2 p.m. ET instead of 1 p.m. The BIG EAST Tennis Committee will meet in the morning to evaluate if further delays are necessary.
