FORT MYERS, Fla. – Xavier used its superior depth and placed three golfers among the top four finishers and five in the top 10 to capture its second straight title at the BIG EAST Women’s Golf Championship Presented by JEEP at the Club at Gateway in Fort Myers, Fla. The Musketeers posted a team score of 891 (+27) for the three rounds.
Xavier earns the BIG EAST’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. Senior Morgan Tinsley won medalist honors by carding a three-round total of 5-over-par 221. She shot a 1-over73 in the final round after starting the day in a tie for second place.
“We played steady golf,” said Xavier coach Breanna Jenco. “I knew we were capable and we stayed within out games all weekend.”
Seton Hall was second behind the Xavier in the team standings. The Pirates had their strongest day with a 294 in the final round, which was the best one-day total for any team in the Championship. Graduate student Maddie Sager was the top Pirate, finishing fifth with an 8-over 224. She shot 73 in the final round. Another grad student, Lizzie Win, tied for sixth with a 9-over 225. She posted her fourth top-10 career finish at the Championship. Win also shot 73 on the final day.
Creighton enjoyed its highest team finish ever, taking third place with a score of 913 (+49). Freshman Gabby Tremblay was in a three-way tie for second place at 223 (+7), the best finish ever by a Bluejay golfer in BIG EAST Championship play. Sophomore Katie Allen tied for eighth at 227 (+11). She took 10th in 2019.
St. John’s, Butler and Georgetown followed in the team standings.
St. John’s shot a 300 on the final day, its best round of the Championship. Junior Jesse Kweon was the top Red Storm performer, tying for 11th place with a 12-over 228. She shot 73 in the final round. Sophomore Cloe Clocchiatti finished in a tie for 15th at 223 (+17).
Butler was in fifth place with a team score of 942 (+78). Junior Claire Edwards, who led after two rounds, finished in a tie for sixth at 225 (+9).
Georgetown finished sixth. The top Hoya was freshman Gabriella Gilrowski was 14th with a 232 (+16).
