BIG EAST Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Euan Makepace, Butler, Graduate Student
Makepeace broke the Butler men's outdoor 5,000-meter record at the Oregon Relays late Friday night with a time of 13:30.55, crushing his previous best by nearly 15 seconds. He finished fifth overall in the elite field, trailing only four NCAA Champions from Oregon and Iowa State. He is currently ranked 13th nationally in the event with a time that leads the BIG EAST this season.
BIG EAST Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Daniel Claxton UConn, Senior
Claxton won in the high jump at the UConn Northeast Invitational for the third time this spring and posted his best jump this outdoor season at 2.14 meters. He is atop the BIG EAST rankings and ranks 37th nationally.
BIG EAST Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Leah Anderson, St. John’s, Senior
Anderson won three events all with the fastest times in the BIG EAST this season and two with times that rank among the best nationally in 2021. At the Army Twilight on Friday, Anderson swept the 200m, 400m and 4x100 relay. Her 200m finish of 23.67 currently ranks 85
th in the NCAA, while her 400m time of 52.95 lists 33
rd among Division I competitors. Along with Avon Samuels, Onassha Rogers and Brooklyn Chestnut, the 4x100 time leads the BIG EAST at 46.07.
BIG EAST Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Sanaä Barnes, Villanova, Junior
Barnes posted the ninth-best high jump in Division I this outdoor season, eclipsing the bar at 1.82 meters at the Philadelphia Metropolitan Collegiate Invitational.
