Trio of Teams Share Latest #BIGEASTsb Weekly Awards

BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week
Kailey Wilson, Creighton, So., INF/DP
Wilson sparked the Bluejays’ offense in a 3-0 series sweep of Seton Hall, batting .778 with five RBI, two home runs and a walk. For the week, her batting average, homers, on base percentage (.818) and total bases (14) led all BIG EAST players, while her RBI total, slugging percentage (1.556) and runs scored (three) listed second. Wilson went 7-of-9 from the plate with a walk and HBP, recording at least two hits in each of the three games against the Pirates.
 
BIG EAST Softball Pitcher of the Week
Karli Ricketts, Butler, Jr., P/DP
Ricketts went 2-0 in the circle last week with a 0.70 earned run average, including a 1-0 clip over 8.0 innings pitched against BIG EAST foe St. John’s. The senior struck out 10 Red Storm batters and allowed just one earned run and one extra base hit. Including the non-conference appearance against Indiana State on Tuesday, Ricketts struck out 13 over 10.0 innings, allowing just one earned run and one double. Opponents were limited to a .143 batting average, helping Butler go 4-0 on the week, including the three-game sweep of St. John’s.
 
BIG EAST Softball Freshman of the Week
Tess Cites, Villanova, Fr., RF
In a 1-1 road swing at UMBC on Friday, Cites posted a .600 batting average with two home runs, a walk and a stolen base. Cites’ home runs were the first of her career, with one being a grand slam – the first by a Villanova rookie since 2006. She registered the most RBI in a Villanova contest since 1999 with six, while the freshman has now reached base safely in seven of her 13 plate appearances on the year.

Mikayla Santa Cruz, Creighton, So., P – 2-0 with five strikeouts and a 1.40 ERA in 10.0 innings of work against Seton Hall
Maranda Gutierrez, DePaul, Sr., INF – batted .571 with five RBI in a three-game sweep of UConn; 2-for-3 with a homer, double and four RBI in Game 1 of the series
Natalie Halvorson, DePaul, Sr., P – 1-0 over 11.0 innings against Loyola (save) and UConn; posted a 1.91 ERA with five strikeouts
Kiana Tate, Seton Hall, Jr., INF – batted .500 on the week, including .625 in three-game series at Creighton; two walks, two runs and an RBI
Paige Rauch, Villanova, Sr., P/1B – struck out seven over five innings in a win at UMBC; was walked three times in the two-game series
