Player of the Week
Ryan Toohers, Villanova, Sr., 1B (Florham Park, N.J.)
Villanova senior first baseman Ryan Toohers batted .769 on 10 hits in 13 at-bats as the Wildcats swept local-rival St. Joseph’s in a three-game series last weekend. Toohers had three or more hits in each game of the series, going 4-for-5 in the series opener. He drove in the game-winning run with a seventh-inning single for an 8-7 final score. In the second game he had three hits an drove in three runs as VU took the win, 16-5. In the third game, the Wildcats won 8-2. Toohers added three more hits and two more RBI. His RBI double in the last game of the series was the 34th of his career and tied him for 20th in school history. Toohers’ statline included 1.077 slugging, an .812 on-base percentage, two doubles, a triple and two walks with seven RBI and four runs.  The 12-2 Wildcats are currently No. 1 in the NCAA RPI rankings going into conference action this weekend.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Ben Casparius, UConn, Jr., RHP (Westport, Conn.)
UConn junior righty Ben Casparius earned the win in series opener for the Huskies against UMass this weekend. Casparius went for 7.0 innings and needed just 87 pitches as he struck out eight. He scattered just two hits in the game, a leadoff single in the top of the third and a leadoff double at the top of the fifth and walked two as he faced 24 batters in a 9-2 win for the Huskies. UMass’ two runs were scored in the eighth. The Huskies went 4-0 last week, sweeping UMass and defeating Boston College earlier in the week. UConn has won eight of its last nine, nine of its last 11.
 
Honor Roll
Jack Myers, Butler
Myers struck out six batters and did not issue a walk in his matchup vs. Ball State on Friday.  He threw 103 pitches over seven full innings and limited the Cardinals to just one earned run. He left with a no-decision in a 7-2 loss for BU.
Chris Winkel, UConn
Winkel batted .533 (8-for-15) in a 4-0 week for UConn with wins over Boston College and UMass as the Huskies outscored their opponents 39-6. Winkel sent in eight runs, scored seven himself, homered twice in the BC game and added two stolen bases. His slugging was .933 for the week and he had a .588 on-base percentage.
Gordon Graceffo, Villanova
Graceffo Won his seventh consecutive decision dating back to last season with seven strong innings against Saint Joseph’s. Graceffo struck out nine in 16-5 win for VU. His ERA was 2.57 for the game. He walked two.
Jack Housinger, Xavier
Housinger finished the series with Dayton batting .533 (8-15), bringing in six RBI and scoring nine runs after starting at shortstop and batting second in all four games. Among Housinger’s hits were two homers and two doubles, finishing with a slugging percentage of 1.067 for the weekend, helping Xavier to a 3-1 series win. Housinger also finished with a .632 on-base percentage after taking four walks as well.
Trey Schramm, Xavier
The Xavier reliever entered with no outs and two runners on in the fifth inning of the 7.0 inning night cap of the Saturday doubleheader at Dayton, not allowing a run over the final 3.0 inning allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out five. Schramm picked up his first win of the season.
