Bracket Set For #BIGEASTwsoc Championship presented by JEEP

Georgetown, UConn represent the East Division; Butler, Creighton represent the Midwest Division.

NEW YORK – The bracket for the 2020-21 BIG EAST Women’s Soccer Championship presented by JEEP was solidified on Thursday evening with Creighton and Connecticut clinching the final two spots in the four-team field. Georgetown is the No. 1 seed in the East Division and will face the Bluejays, No. 2 seed out of the Midwest, in the first Semifinal match on April 16, set for 2 p.m. ET. Butler is the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Division and will face the Huskies, the No. 2 seed in the East Division, in the second Semifinal match next Friday, set for 5 p.m. Semifinal winners will square off on April 18 at 11 a.m. to determine the BIG EAST Champion and recipient of the Conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Championship. The BIG EAST Digital Network presented by SoFi, available on YouTube, will provide coverage of the BIG EAST Championship Semifinals, before FS1 takes over for the Final. All three BIG EAST Championship matches will be played at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium, located on the campus of Providence College.

Georgetown went 7-0-1 in East Division action this spring to finish atop the standings. The Hoyas have not played since March 28 as their final two matches, including today’s scheduled tilt with UConn, were canceled due to COVID-19 protocols. Georgetown leads the all-time series with Creighton 5-0-2, with the teams playing to a scoreless draw when they last met, Oct. 13, 2019, on the Hilltop. Georgetown is 11-13-4 in 17 BIG EAST Championship appearances, winning the trophy in 2016, 2017 and 2018 while claiming three runner-up showings, including most recently in 2019.

Creighton is making its first trip to the BIG EAST Championship. The Bluejays finished Midwest Division play with a 4-4-0 mark to tie Marquette for second, but swept the Golden Eagles during the regular season to gain the advantage.

Butler, the 2015 BIG EAST Champion, is headed to the conference postseason for the seventh time after finishing atop the Midwest Division at 6-1-0, including today’s 2-1 win over Creighton. The Bulldogs are 5-4-1 all-time in the BIG EAST Championship, including the 2015 title run and a pair of runner-up finishes (2018, 2017). The semifinal meeting with UConn will mark the first time these programs have ever met.

Despite not playing on Thursday, UConn clinched the final spot in the field due to Providence’s draw with St. John’s. The Huskies finish their first season back in the BIG EAST since 2012 with a runner-up record of 6-2-1 in the East Division. UConn will make its conference-leading 20th appearance in the BIG EAST Championship, which the Huskies have won twice prior (2002, 2004) and also boast nine runner-up showings, most recently in 2008.
