Season’s Final Set Of #BIGEASTsb Weekly Awards Announced

Villanova’s Giampolo and Rauch, UConn’s Sanden collect last weekly honors of 2021.

BIG EAST Player of the Week
Angela Giampolo, Villanova, Sr., 2B
Giampolo led the Wildcats to a weekend sweep of UConn to clinch the No. 2 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST Championship presented by JEEP. The senior batted .500 with a league-high six RBI, posting a .750 on base percentage after being walked five times as well. Giampolo was clutch in the series, driving home the go-ahead run in Game 2 of the UConn series before driving in the tying and go-ahead runs in Game 3.
 
BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Paige Rauch, Villanova, Sr., P/UT
Rauch broke the Villanova record with her ninth shutout of the season in the opening game of the UConn series. She pitched a two-hitter with one walk and 11 strikeouts for a 1-0 victory which improved her record to 17-3 on the season.  Rauch recorded her fourth game this season and the 12th of her career with 10 or more strikeouts, and during the game surpassed 400 strikeouts in a Villanova uniform.  The previous school record of eight shutouts in a season had stood for 20 years. She also drew six walks as a batter during the series, including five in the final two games.
 
BIG EAST Freshman of the Week
Jana Sanden, UConn, Fr., INF
Sanden led UConn in the batters box through six games with a .429 average, which featured her hitting at a .600 clip during the Villanova series. She also had a slugging percentage of .714.  In 14 plate appearances Sanden produced six hits including a double and home run, four runs, three RBI and a pair of stolen bases. The freshman's best performance of the week came in the series finale against Seton Hall which saw Sanden go 2-for 3 at the plate with two runs including one HR and a pair of RBI.

Krista Dalgarn, DePaul, Sr., P – 2-0 over two appearances; 0.81 ERA with four strikeouts, earning wins over Illinois Chicago
Jacque Harrington, Providence, Fr., INF/UT – batted .455 with a homer and two doubles in series win over Seton Hall
Daniela Alvarez, Providence, Jr., P – 2-0 against Seton Hall with a 1.75 ERA and eight strikeouts; allowed just one extra-base hit on the weekend
Peyton Cody, St. John’s, Jr., C/UT – batted .667 against Stony Brook and Delaware; added a double, home run and RBI
Darby Pandolfo, Seton Hall, Grad., UT – batted .429 over six games with four homers, five RBI and four walks
