Player of the Week
Erik Stock, UConn, Jr., Utility/RHP (Virginia Beach, Va.)
Connecticut junior Erik Stock earned BIG EAST Player of the Week honors after leading the league last week in batting and on-base percentage. Stock batted .583 (7-for-12) in a 2-1 series win at Villanova for the Huskies. He walked once for an on-base percentage of .615. He slugged 1.000 with two doubles and a home run. Stock also added one stolen base. In the 3-2 series opening loss, the outfielder batted 4-for-4, scoring one of the two runs with a double. In the second game, he scored three of the nine runs, one his own with a homer, and was credited with two RBI. He had no errors in the field with four putouts. UConn won Saturday’s game 9-4 and Sunday’s 4-3.
Pitcher of the Week
David Festa, Seton Hall, Jr., RHP (Monroe, N.J.)
Seton Hall junior righty tossed a one-hit complete game shutout in Seton Hall’s seven-inning 15-0 victory over Creighton in game one of a doubleheader on Saturday. Festa registered a season-best eight strikeouts, one shy of matching his career high, against the second-best hitting team in the BIG EAST. Festa’s stat line included just two walks. The lone hit of the game was in the top of the fifth. He retied 12 of the first 13 batters he faced. The one Bluejay that reached on a walk was erased on a pick off at first base in the top of the second.
Honor Roll
Nick Eaton, Butler
Nick Eaton helped BU find the win column against SJU with a two-hit, one-run, seven-inning complete game against the Johnnies. Eaton struck out three in the 4-1 win and did not issue a walk. He got BU to the finish line on 99 pitches.
Dylan Tebrake, Creighton
Tebrake faced five over the minimum batters, facing 29, in a 8.0 inning outing in the series opener against Seton Hall. He did not allow a run and just let up five hits and one walk while striking out six. Tebrake moved to 8-0 on the season.
Nick Mondak, St. John’s
Allowed three hits and a walk while striking out 10 in 6.0 scoreless innings in SJU’s series opener against Butler. The 10 strikeouts matched a career high. He allowed just one earned run in his last three starts (17.0 innings).
Luke Franzoni, Xavier
Franzoni hit .417 (5-for-12) in four conference games against Georgetown, picking up an RBI and scoring give times. XU won the series 3-1. Franzoni walked twice for an on-base percentage of .533.
Zwack, Xavier
Zwack earned a complete game shutout win for XU against GU, his second complete-game shutout of the season. The senior lefty allowed just a pair of hits after pitching a perfect game through the first 5.2 innings. He struck out eight and did not allow one walk.
