Player of the Week
Parker Upton, Creighton, Sr. OF (Grand Island, Neb.)
Creighton senior Parker Upton set the tone for the 3-1 series win over St. John’s in the first inning Friday night as he blasted a grand slam to help the Bluejays take the opener, 6-1. Upton led Creighton with a .400 (6-for-15) average. He led the BIG EAST last week in RBI with eight while adding two stolen bases, a .667 slugging percentage and a .412 on-base percentage. Upton had two multi-hit games, going 2-for-4 in the opener and 2-for-5 in the series finale. He also walked once and had no errors in the field, although he was responsible for four outs and assisted another.
Pitcher of the Week
Tyler Burnham, Seton Hall, Sr., LHP (East Brunswick, N.J.)
Seton Hall southpaw Tyler Burnham tossed the fifth no-hitter in Pirate history on Sunday to lead the Pirates to a sweep of Georgetown. Burnham struck out a career-high 14 batters on 128 pitches. He recorded at least one strikeout in six of the nine innings and struck out the side twice. The senior retired nine consecutive batters from the sixth through the eighth innings. Burnham is 3-3 on the year. The Seton Hall offense helped him with two runs, one scored in the fourth, one in the seventh.
Honor Roll
Ben Caparius, UConn
Casparius struck out 14 in 7.0 innings in a non-conference game against Bucknell. The Husky hurler allowed just two hits and one run to score as UConn won 9-1.
Dylan Tebrake, Creighton
Tebrake moved to 5-0 on the season as he limited St. Jon’s to just one run on seven hits in an 8.1 inning start on Friday night. Tebrake notched a season-best nine strikeouts, walking just one.
Matt Toke, Seton Hall
Toke batted .467 (7-for-15) with two doubles, five RBI and three runs scored in Seton Hall’s sweep of Georgetown. He slugged .600 and had an on-base of.500. He registered 32 putouts, three assists and didn’t commit an error in four games at first base. In support of Burnham’s no-hitter, he started and finished the game-ending double play.
Gordon Graceffo, Villanova
Pitched a four-hitter for his second complete game of the season in a 2-1 win over Xavier. Graceffo had a career high 10 strikeouts in the game and retired the side in order five times. The only run scored was unearned for Graceffo’s stat line. Villanova won a BIG EAST series for the first time since 2017.
Nick Zwack, Xavier
The Xavier lefty made the start and went 6.1 innings against Villanova, not allowing a run in the 1-0 win for the Musketeers. He gave up two hits, not allowing a hit until the fifth. He walked three and struck out seven.
