KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- United Soccer Coaches and the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) have announced the 15 men’s and 15 women's semifinalists for the 2020-21 MAC Hermann Trophy on Tuesday, based on voting by NCAA Division I men’s and women's soccer coaches. Two BIG EAST men's soccer student-athletes were among the 15 men honored: Georgetown's Dante Polvara and Marquette's Lukas Sunesson. 

The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is the most coveted individual honor in NCAA Division I soccer and has been awarded annually since 1967. Most recently, Robbie Robinson (Clemson) and Catarina Macario (Stanford) received the award for outstanding intercollegiate performances in 2019.

Three men and three women finalists will be named for the award on Wednesday, May 12. The 2020-21 MAC Hermann Trophy banquet will be held at the historic Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on May 27, 2021 to formally announce this year’s winners.

Polvara was the 2020 BIG EAST Midfielder of the Year and All-BIG EAST First Team. This is his first MAC honor, he was not on the organization's preseason watch list. It marks Georgetown's second-consecutive season with a MAC Hermann Semifinalist. Polvara is the sixth semifinalist in Georgetown history. Read more on Polvara.

Sunesson, the Taby, Sweden native is the first Marquette player in Golden Eagle history to be named a semifinalist for this prestigious award. He joins 14 other candidates from around the country to earn this honor. Sunesson made the All-BIG EAST First Team after a breakout season that saw him score a team-best six goals along with two assists. Read more on Sunesson.
