No. 1 Denver; No. 2 Georgetown Square Off In Saturday’s #BIGEASTmlax Championship

PROVIDENCE, R.I.  –  For the fourth time in the history of the BIG EAST men’s lacrosse championship, No. 1 Denver will play against No. 2 Georgetown for the conference tournament title. The Hoyas enter Saturday’s game as the two-time defending champion. Brent Stover and Steve Panarelli will be on the call from Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium with the championship game starting at 3 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network. The championship is presented by JEEP.

The No. 1 and No. 2 seeds have met in the championship game six times previously in the short history of the tournament (2019, 2018, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013). The No. 1 seed has won just twice in eight tournaments. Both times, it was Denver (2015, 2014).

The BIG EAST has had only four champions. All four of the champions have won back-to-back titles: Syracuse (2012, 2013), Denver (2014, 2015), Marquette (2016, 2017) and Georgetown (2018, 2019).

NCAA berths are at stake as the championship winner will earn the BIG EAST’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament. The runner up will await their fate to be a potential at-large selection in ESPNU’S Selection Show on Sunday, May 9 at 9 p.m. ET.
