Notes For Sept. 10, 2021 (PDF)

BIG EAST Notables:
  • The final weekend before conference play opens with BIG EAST men’s soccer boasting the top spot in the United Soccer Coaches Poll as Georgetown moves up to No. 1 with 15 first-place votes. Marquette and Seton Hall remain in the poll at Nos. 18 and 22, respectively.
  • Creighton (1-2-1) did its part to help Georgetown as the Bluejays shutout then-No. 1 Indiana, 3-0, on Friday, Sept. 3 as part of the Hoosier Classic. The win over the Hoosiers in Bloomington, Ind., was the program’s first victory against a team ranked No. 1 and was the first victory against a ranked opponent since Sept. 6, 2019 (2-1 vs. No. 21 Akron) and first shutout of a ranked opponent since 2018 (No. 11 Clemson, 2-0).
  • Georgetown and Seton Hall remain unbeaten as the Hoyas are 4-0-0 and the Pirates are 2-0-2. Georgetown is one of 16 teams in Division I with no losses or ties.
  • Nine BIG EAST teams played on Labor Day Monday. The record for the day stood at 3-3-3. Wins for the day included: Georgetown, 1-0 over Santa Clara; Villanova, 2-1, over Yale and St. John’s, 1-0, over Fordham.
  • Creighton will have the season’s first COVID cancellation as the Bluejays’ Friday night opponent, Drake, had COVID issues within their program. As a result, Creighton’s annual Socctoberfest has been rescheduled for Sept. 18 against Georgetown.
  • Seven men’s soccer contests will stream on FloSports this weekend, including a top 10 showdown between DMV rivals – No. 1 Georgetown and No. 7 Maryland.
