Creighton, Seton Hall Earn Weekly Golf Honors

NEW YORK – Creighton junior Katie Allen has been named BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week after a strong showing at the Coeur d’Alene Collegiate Invitational.  The Seton Hall duo of Andre Acevedo and Alex Sun will share BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week honors after both shot the same impressive score at the Hartford Hawks Invitational. 
 
BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week
Katie Allen, Creighton, Jr. – Allen broke her own school record in a 54-hole event with a 4-over 217 (74-73-70) at the Coeur d’Alene Collegiate Invitational.  She tied for seventh place in a field of 93 golfers.  Her 217 broke her own school mark by three strokes.  Her final-round 70 was the best score of her collegiate career and was her program record fourth round of par or better in her career.

Andres Acevedo & Alex Sun, Seton Hall, So. – Acevedo and Sun tied for fourth place at the Hartford Hawks Invitational, each shooting a 7-under-par 209.  Acevedo, a graduate student, shot rounds of 69, 67 and 73.  His 67 in the second round put him in first place going into the final round.  His 209 total is a career best. Sun, a sophomore, was even better than his teammate in the second round, firing a 65, which tied for the lowest single-round score in program history.  The Pirates finished tied for fourth place in the team standings. 

Men’s Notes – Connecticut also competed at the Hartford Hawks Invitational and took fifth place in the team standings.  Sophomore Caleb Manuel shot a 4-under 212 (69-69-74), which placed him ninth in the 114-player field…Xavier and DePaul played in the Valpo Fall Invitational.  The Musketeers tied for the fourth and the Blue Demons finished eighth.  Xavier was led by Michael Prebles, who tied for eighth place with a 1-over 217 (75-74-68).  His 68 in the final round was the best individual round in the tournament.  Artemiy Yalovenko was tops for DePaul, tying for 29th at 14-over 230 (76-80-74)…St. John’s defeated Navy 10-8 in match play at the Naval Academy Golf Club.  The competition featured six individual matches with each match worth three points.  Freshman Peicheng Chen, sophomore Doug Beney and junior Ryan Rittberger each earned 2.5 points…Creighton finished eighth at the Ram Masters Invitational hosted by Colorado State.  Nate Vontz tied for second place with a 10-over 220 (77-71-72).  The first two rounds were played in extremely windy conditions.  The senior has finished among the top 11 in his last seven tournaments.

Women’s Notes Butler finished fifth in the Ball State Cardinal Classic.  Claire Edwards and Ally Ross tied for fourth place after each carded a 223 over 54 holes.  Edwards’ rounds were 73, 76, 74.  Ross’ rounds were 69, 81, 73.  Xavier did not compete in the past week.  The Musketeers’ last action was a 12th-place finish in the 16-team field at the Wolverine Invitational.  Freshman Kara Carter tied for 26th (+7) with a 220 (70-77-73).  Sophomore Emma McMyler tied for 29th (+8) with a 221 (73-73-75).
