NEW YORK – St. John’s freshman Peicheng Chen and Seton Hall graduate student Margot Bechadergue are the first winners of weekly honors for the fall golf season. Peicheng has been named BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week after tying for second in the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational in Hamilton, N.Y. Bechadergue placed fourth among 85 golfers at the Nittany Lion Invitational.
BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week
Peicheng Chen, St. John’s, Fr. – Chen rose eight spots in the final round to finish in a tie for second place at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational hosted by Colgate University. The freshman fired a 2-under par 70 in the third round that included six birdies to finish with a 1-under 215 (74-71-70).
BIG EAST Female Golfer of the Week
Margot Bechadergue, Seton Hall, Gr. –Bechadergue placed fourth in a field of 85 golfers at the Nittany Lion Invitational with a 5-under-par 211 (71-68-72). Her 211 broke the school three-round, par-72 score by three strokes. The graduate student’s second-round 68 tied the second-lowest single round in program history for a par-72 course.
BIG EAST Men’s Notes – Marquette hosted the Marquette Intercollegiate, which included eight teams in Golfweek’s top 50 and 14 in the top 100. Freshman Max Lyons led for the Golden Eagles, shooting a 2-under 214, which tied for 29
th place. He recorded a 5-under 67 in the second round, which included six birdies and one bogey. Marquette finished 14
th in the team standings…
Seton Hall also competed in the Alex Lagowitz Memorial. The Pirates had two teams. Their “A Team” finished in second place behind champion Yale. Individually, graduate student Gregor Tait and freshman Angus O’Brien tied for ninth place at 217 (+1). It was Tait’s sixth career top-10 finish. He used two birdies and an eagle in his third-round 74. O’Brien, who was competing on the “B Team,” shot a 69 in the first round.
Villanova, also was in the tourney and finished seventh. Peter Weaver tied for 15
th with a 4-over 220 (75-71-74).
St. John’s, also helped by senior Jack Simon’s fifth-place finish at 216, tied for eighth. He posted two eagles in the final round.
BIG EAST Women’s Notes –
Georgetown freshman Sophie Dalfonsi posted the second best 54-hole score in program history when she carded a 2-under 214 (77-68-69) at the Nittany Lion Invitational. Dalfonsi tied for seventh place and the Hoyas tied for eighth…Claire Edwards led
Butler at the Redbird Invitational with a sixth-place finish. An All-BIG EAST First Team selection in the spring, the senior shot a 1-over 217 (73-71-73). The Bulldogs took fourth in a 16-team field with a team score of 894 (+30).
