Georgetown To Host West Virginia in NCAA Championships Second Round Pod

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's soccer team will host a pod for the second and third rounds of the 2025 NCAA Women's Soccer Championships. GU will face the West Virginia Mountaineers on Thursday evening with kickoff slated for 5 p.m. EST at Shaw Field.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown (16-3-2, 10-0 BE) is coming off a 3-0 victory over the Sacred Heart Pioneers in the first round of the NCAA Championships. GU has now advanced to the second round for the sixth-consecutive season. The last time the Hoyas made it past the second round was in 2020 when the Blue & Gray made it to the Sweet 16 before falling to TCU in penalty kicks.
  • Against Sacred Heart, Natalie Means (2) and Shay Montgomery both tallied a goal en route to GU's 13th shutout of the season. Means tallied her ninth and 10th goal of the season while Montgomery added her seventh goal and her 13th assist of the season.
  • The quartet of Means, Montgomery, Henley Tippins and Maja Lardner has combined for 105 of Georgetown's 135 points this season. The group has tallied more than three fourths of the squads' goals with 40 and has recorded 25 assists.
  • Maja Lardner was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year after tallying 31 points on 14 goals and three assists.
  • Cara Martin was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year after posting a 0.560 GAA this season. The senior went 10-0 in conference action and contributed to all eight of GU's conference shutouts.
  • Georgetown's coaching staff was named the 2025 BIG EAST Coaching Staff of the Year after leading the Blue & Gray to a 15-3-2 record this season. The last time Head Coach Nolan and his staff were recognized was in 2024 when the Hoyas went 12-3-4 while earning a spot in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
  • Lardner, Martin and Means all earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team.
  • GU ranks in the top-25 nationally in 11 different statistical categories. GU is in the top-10 nationally in corner kicks per game (third), goals against average (fifth), shots per game (ninth), shots on goal per game (eighth), won-lost-tied percentage (sixth), shutout percentage (seventh) and goal differential (seventh).
ABOUT WVU
  • West Virginia (14-3-3, 8-0-3 B1G) defeated Wagner 5-0 in the first round of the NCAA Championships behind goals from Anna Hauer, Abbey Olexa and Alicia Riggins.
  • Taylor White paces the Mountaineers offense with 10 goals, nine assists and 29 points this season.
  • Bailey Herfurth has logged 1,583 minutes in goal this season and boasts a 0.796 GAA. Herfurth has tallied nine shutouts while recording 40 saves.
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Thursday's matchup will be the 27th meeting in program history between the two sides dating back to 1996. GU holds a 7-16-3 record against West Virginia.
  • The Blue & Gray is 4-3-3 in the last 10 matchups against West Virginia. The last meeting between the two sides was a 2-0 win on September 17, 2022.
