STORRS, Conn. – The No. 13 seed UConn men's soccer team advanced to the Sweet 16 on Saturday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over Cornell in front of 2,048 fans at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium. Despite going down 1-0 in the 37th minute, the Huskies rallied back with three unanswered goals to advance to the round of 16.

The match commenced with both teams vying for control, but it was Cornell who struck first. Connor Miller scored in the 37th minute, putting Cornell ahead 1-0.

UConn responded quickly, as the Huskies leading goal scorer Austin Brummett found an equalizer in the 43rdminute, knotting the game at 1-1. Brummett added another goal in the final seconds before the halftime whistle, recording his second brace this season, and giving UConn a 2-1 lead at the break. Brummett's first half tallies bring him to ten goals this season, marking the first time in his career he has reached double digits goals in a season. The last time a Husky recorded 10+ goals in a season was Abdou Mbacke Thiam back in 2018 (14).

Shots favored Cornell 10-6 in the first half.

Cornell pushed hard in the second half in search of a potential equalizer, but UConn's defense held strong, led by redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper Kyle Durham who made four of his seven saves in the second half. Despite the steady wave of pressure from the Cornell attack, UConn managed to extend its lead in the 78th minute, converting from a free kick that found the head of sophomore defender Alex Tupay, the first goal of his career to make it 3-1.

The Huskies held strong for the final 12 minutes, securing their spot in the round of 16 for the first time since 2013.
