NEW YORK – Despite frigid temperatures revisiting the Northeast this week, golf season is officially upon us as the BIG EAST has named their Golf Players of the Week on Thursday. St. John’s earned the sweep as Ryan McCormick was tabbed BIG EAST Men’s Golfer of the Week and Anna Kim was named BIG EAST Women’s Golfer of the Week.
BIG EAST Men’s Golf Player of the Week
Ryan McCormick, Senior, St. John’s
Recently ranked No. 22 in the nation in the first Palmer Cup ranking of 2014, senior Ryan McCormick started off his final spring season with a career-breaking performance to earn his second collegiate title at the Snowman Getaway on Feb. 25. The senior carded the program's third-lowest score in history with a 64 (-8) in the first round before adding a 68 (-4) and 69 (-3) in each of the last two rounds to take first place with a 15-under total of 201. Through the fall and his first event in 2014, McCormick holds a stroke average of 70.07.
BIG EAST Women’s Golf Player of the Week
Anna Kim, Sophomore, St. John’s
Anna Kim started off her first event of the 2014 season with a career performance, carding the program's second lowest single-round score in history with a 69 in the first round of the Kiawah Island Classic, the largest collegiate golfing event in the nation. The sophomore finished the three-day tournament tied for sixth overall in the field of 192, posting a seven-over score of 223 to lead the Red Storm to an 11th- place finish in the field of 36.
