NEW YORK – A pair of juniors were honored by the BIG EAST on Wednesday when Marquette’s Brandon Cloete and Creighton’s Katie Morel picked up weekly awards in golf.
Cloete was stellar against some of the best competition in the nation last week at the Arizona National Invitational Tournament, while Morel was steady in back-to-back outings in Las Vegas, Nev., and St. George, Utah, for the Bluejays.
BIG EAST Men’s Golfer of the Week
BRANDON CLOETE, MARQUETTE Jr., Knysna, South Africa
Playing in one of the strongest collegiate fields to date, Cloete carded an even-par 216 at the Arizona National Invitational Tournament last week. He fired a final-round 70 thanks to a superb 5-under 31 on the back nine to card a 70 for his third and final round. The NIT was ranked by Golfweek as the 15th strongest field in college golf of the 200 events played to date. Cloete tied teammate C.J. Swift at even par, which matched two players and bested two others from the nation’s top 50.
