NEW YORK – DePaul freshman James Lelliott carded two under-par rounds en route to a career-best performance for the Blue Demons and was named the BIG EAST Men’s Golf Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Lelliott led DePaul to a fourth-place finish out of 15 squads at the FAU Spring Invite at the Fountains Country Club in Lake Worth, Fla., last week. After an opening-round four-over 75, Lelliott got back to even with a four-under 67 in the second round and carded a 70 (-1) in the final round to finish with a career-best 212 to end in a seventh-place tie. He bettered his previous season best of 219 carded at the USF Invitational. His showing at the FAU Spring Invite was his second top-10 showing of the season.
BIG EAST Notebook
• Plenty of events are on this week’s docket with both the BIG EAST Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships later this month. The Villanova men are hosting their own Wildcat Invitational over two days that began Monday with fellow BIG EAST program Butler.
• The Georgetown women are playing host to the Hoya Invitational on Monday and Tuesday. Seton Hall and St. John’s are in town for that. Meanwhile, the Hoya men are at the Memphis Invite with Xavier.
• The Georgetown men took 21st of 27 teams at the Middleburg Bank Invitational hosted by William & Mary from March 23-25. Greg Podufal shot a final-day one-over 71 to lead the Hoyas.
• Coming off back-to-back victories, the Xavier women tied for 15th at the SDSU Farms Invitational in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. Ariel McNair, a senior, carded an 81 on the final day to tie for 58th. The Musketeers improved their team strokes across all three days, finishing with a 309 in the last round.
