PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Louisville junior Chris Malec earned BIG EAST men's golf Player of the Week honors, while Notre Dame freshman Ashley Armstrong was named BIG EAST women's golf Player of the Week.

Malec continued to lead the Cardinals and finished ninth overall at the Irish Creek Collegiate, giving him his second straight top-10 finish. The junior fired a 70 in the third round for a total of 71-67-70-208. His five-under par was eight shots behind the tournament winner who finished at 13-under.

Armstrong finished in a tie for 13th at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia. She fired rounds of 72, 70 and 74 for her 216 total in a tournament that saw 14 golfers shoot even par or better. She finished seven strokes behind the tournament winner. Armstrong's previous best this season was a nine-over par 225, something she has done three times and her best finish was a tie for 14th. Her two rounds of par or better give her four this season.
