Connecticut's Zaback Shoots a 66 to Win BIG EAST Men's Golf Athlete of the Week Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Connecticut freshman Zach Zaback was named BIG EAST Men's Golf Player of the Week after finishing first at the New England D-1 Championships.

 

Zaback shot a 139 (66-73) at the Newport National Country Club on April 13-14 to take an individual win and lead the Huskies to first place. The freshman won his second tournament of the year and shot his fourth sub-70 round of the season. He led all competitors with eight birdies. Connecticut beat the University of Rhode Island by 12 strokes to earn the team victory.

 

BIG EAST Golf Notebook

  • DePaul junior Moritz Ackerhans finished in sixth place at the Kemper Sports Spring Invitational, shooting a career-low 68 in the final round. Ackerhhans came back from a first round score of 77 with nine birdies.
  • St. John's senior Pat Wilson and sophomore Dylan Crowley tied for ninth at the Kemper Sports Spring Invitational with scores of 220. Crowley and Wilson led the Red Storm to their best round score of the year (284, 4-under par) in the final round.
  • The 2013 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship will take place April 28-30 at the Reunion Resort & Club in Orlando, Fla.
  • The 2013 BIG EAST Women's Golf Championship will take place April 21-23 at the Reunion Resort & Club in Orlando, Fla.
