Notre Dame Bounces Back at the BIG EAST Women's Golf Championship to Take the Lead after Round Two

ORLANDO, Fla. - Notre Dame leads the 2013 BIG EAST Women's Golf Championship field (579, +3) by one stroke over Louisville (580, +4). The Fighting Irish rebounded from a 294 (+6) in the first round to shoot a 285 (-3) on Monday. Lindsey Weaver and Talia Campbell are tied for second (141, -3).

 

Emily Haas recorded a tournament-low 68 (-4) in Round Two to take the individual lead. The sophomore leads the Cardinals with a 140 (-4), which ties for the lowest score after 36 holes all-time at the BIG EAST championship. Last year's champion Ashley Armstrong of Notre Dame also shot a 140 through 36 holes. Louisville has four players ranked in the top-10 overall through two rounds, including Katie Petrino (5th, 145), Laura Restrepo (T-7th, 147) and Tara Lyons (T-10th, 148) in addition to Haas.

 

Cincinnati (602, +26) edged out Seton Hall (603, +27) for the third-place position after 36 holes. Stefanie Mitchell leads the Bearcats through two rounds with a score of 147 (T-7th). Seton Hall was led by Hannah Basalone's 71 (-1) in the first round and Christina Cantu's 71 in the second round. Cantu recorded her second consecutive eagle on hole 17 in Round Two.

 

St. John's sits just behind Seton Hall in fifth place with a team score of 605 (+36). The Red Storm is led by 2011 champion Harin Lee, who led the field entering Round One. The junior is in fourth place overall with a 143 (-1).

 

The 2013 BIG EAST Women's Golf Championship continues tomorrow from Reunion Resort at 8:00 a.m.
