Providence, R.I. - The NCAA Division I Men's Golf Committee selected the teams and individuals to participate in the 2012 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships on Monday. Six 54-hole regional tournaments will be conducted May 17-19. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals. Notre Dame will represent the BIG EAST after automatically qualifying by winning the conference golf tournament on May 1.
The Irish will participate in a 13-team regional at the University of Michigan Golf Course in Ann Arbor, Mich. This marks the 35th time the Irish have qualified for postseason competition with the team winning the title once in 1944.
Justin Dorward of Louisville and Trey Valentine of USF both were selected to participate as individuals in the regionals. Dorward will play The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, Ky., while Valentine will play the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga.
The finals will be conducted May 29-June 3, at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
