NEW YORK – St. John’s senior Ryan McCormick, who captured the BIG EAST Individual Championship at Callawassie Island, S.C., last month and is preparing for the NCAA Regional this week, was unanimously selected as the conference’s Player of the Year in a vote of the head coaches.

McCormick also leads a 12-member All-BIG EAST squad as one of five unanimous selections. Joining him with major trophies Tuesday were Seton Hall's Lloyd Jefferson Go was Freshman of the Year and St. John's Frank Darby as Coach of the Year.

McCormick topped the individual standings at the BIG EAST Championships with a 5-under-par 211, carding a final-round 69 to pull away from the field and win by eight strokes. He entered the championships at the top individual seed and played like it, scoring back-to-back 71s in the first two rounds to build his lead. As he’s prepared for the upcoming NCAA Regional in Auburn, Ala., McCormick finished in a ninth-place tie at PGA Tour Canada Q-School to earn exempt status for the 2014 season.

Go opened his fall season with a 14-place showing at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate in September and netted the first sub-70 round of his collegiate career two weeks later at The Doc Gimmler. He added another 69 in the first round of the Barnabas Health Intercollegiate in his final fall outing in mid-October. In the spring, Go had four top-10 outings in five events, including a second-place finish at the Rutherford Intercollegiate before tying for seventh at the BIG EAST Championships.

Darby guided the Red Storm to their first BIG EAST Championship since 1989. St. John’s led wire to wire at Callawassie Island, opening a five-stroke lead with a 290 on day one and building it to 10 strokes after 36 holes. The Johnnies carded a 297 over the final 18 holes for a three-day total of 882 to finish +18 for the tournament, 10 strokes ahead of second-place Marquette. St. John’s will make its first NCAA Regional appearance this weekend since 2002. Darby is in his 19th season leading the program.
