Louisville and Villanova Earn BIG EAST Golf Player of the Month Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - With fall golf schedules underway, Louisville sophomore Emily Haas was named BIG EAST Women's Golf Player of the Month and Villanova senior Michael Kania was tabbed BIG EAST Men's Golf Player of the Month.

 

Haas took the BIG EAST Women's Golf Player of the Month award after impressive showings at Colonel Wollenberg's Ram Classic and the Cardinal Cup. The sophomore played her way to a tie for 10th at Colonel Wollenberg's Ram Classic after shooting rounds of 74, 70 and 76 at the Ptarmigan Country Club in Fort Collins, Colo. Haas finished first of 81 competitors at the Cardinal Classic, winning by five strokes. Her score of 209 (7-under par) after three rounds set a tournament record at the Cardinal Classic.

 

Kania earns BIG EAST Men's Golf Player of the Month honors by notching two top-3 finishes. The senior tied for second at the CHAMPS/Patriot Intercollegiate at the Laurel Hills Golf Club in Lorton, Va., falling two strokes short of a victory over No. 3 Jace Long of No. 11 Missouri. Kania shot a 211 (71-72-68) to help the Wildcats to a third-place team finish. The senior finished tied for third at the Adams Cups of Newport at the Newport Country Club/Carnegie Abbey Club in Newport, R.I., with a score of 215 (69-73-73). Kania has been the top finisher for Villanova in all three of its tournaments to date, shooting an average of 71 over nine rounds of golf.
