Rutgers Earns Final Swimming and Diving Weekly Award

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore Nicole Honey of Rutgers earned BIG EAST Athlete of the Week honors in women's swimming and diving in the final weekly awards of the 2012-13 season.

 

Honey won both diving events at a four-team dual meet featuring Georgetown, Seton Hall and Villanova. The sophomore claimed the 3-meter dive with a total mark of 317.00 and placed first in the 1-meter dive with 288.15 points.

 

The 2012-13 Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week honors has officially concluded. The teams now await the BIG EAST Championships Feb. 27 - March 2 at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.

 

Notes From Around the League:

  • Louisville and Notre Dame are ranked No. 15 and No. 19 respectively in the Jan. 30 women's CSCAA coaches' poll. The Cardinals are tied with Texas A&M at No. 18 nationally and the Fighting Irish are receiving votes in the men's Feb. 6 CSCAA coaches' poll.
  • Only Connecticut, Pittsburgh and Providence are scheduled to compete this weekend. The remaining BIG EAST members have concluded their regular season competition and prepare for the BIG EAST Championships.
  • Junior Joao De Lucca of Louisville has the fastest time in the nation in the 200 freestyle with a mark of 1:32.57. He has the second fastest mark in the 100 freestyle with a time of 42.05 and the seventh fastest time in the 50 freestyle with a mark of 19.61.
  • Sophomore Caryle Blondell of Louisville has the ninth fastest mark in the country in the 100 freestyle at 43.16 seconds.
  • Sophomore Emma Reaney of Notre Dame has the fourth fastest NCAA times in the 200 breaststroke and 200 individual medley with marks of 2:07.60 and 1:55.05 respectively. She has the seventh fastest time in the 100 breaststroke with a mark of 59.38.
  • Sophomore Addison Bray of Louisville has the 10th best mark in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:55.82.
