PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Seton Hall sophomore Richard Dunham was named BIG EAST Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week and Rutgers senior Patrisha Averill was named BIG EAST Women's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week.
Dunham posted three first-place finishes over the weekend to lead Seton Hall to victories over Loyola and Lafayette. He recorded a time of 20.79 in the 50-yard freestyle, to capture his first win of the meet. In the 100 free, Dunham finished in 47.22, more than a second ahead of the competition. He also anchored the first-place 200 medley relay, swimming his leg in 21.14 seconds. Seton Hall remains undefeated on the season with a 3-0 record.
Averill helped Rutgers to a 3-0 weekend, recording six first-place finishes along the way. In a quad meet against Villanova, Georgetown and Connecticut, Averill won four individual races and two medley relays. She posted a time of 1:04.02 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 2:18.98 in the 200 breast. In the 200 individual medley, she finished in 2:05.32 while completing the 400 IM in 4:27.11. Averill also swam the second leg in both the 400 and the 200-yard medley relays and posted individual times of 1:03.31 and 29.42, respectively.
The 2011-12 Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week honors will be awarded throughout the season when at least half of the teams are participating. The next weekly awards will be given out on Nov. 8.
