Notre Dame Captures Swimming and Diving Weekly Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior Frank Dyer of Notre Dame was named BIG EAST Athlete of the Week in men's swimming and diving and senior Kim Holden of Notre Dame earned BIG EAST Athlete of the Week honors in women's swimming and diving in the third weekly awards of the 2012-13 season.

 

Dyer won two individual races against No. 18 Purdue on Nov. 2. The junior took first place in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:39.14 and won the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:33.73. Dyer also was a member of the 200 medley relay squad that won the event in 1:30.16 as Notre Dame defeated Purdue, 156-144.

 

Holden claimed first place in the 100 and 200 backstroke as well as the 100 fly against No. 19 Purdue. She won the 100 backstroke in 54.69 seconds and took first in the 200 with a mark of 1:58.51, finishing almost six seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. The senior also placed first in the 100 fly with a mark of 54.46 seconds. Her times provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships.

 

The 2012-13 Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week honors will be awarded throughout the season when at least half of the teams are participating. The next weekly awards will be announced on Nov. 13.

  • Louisville junior Joao De Lucca ranks among the nation's best in the 100 freestyle. He is third among all NCAA leaders with a time of 44:04.
  • The Cincinnati women's 200 medley relay team has the third-fastest time in the country this season with a mark of 1:29.56.
  • Louisville freshman Bryan Draganosky's time of 15:32.73 in the 1,650 freestyle is the third fastest in the country.
  • Providence sophomore Justin Tse has the fourth fastest time in the 400 freestyle with a time of 4:16.83.
  • The Louisville men's 400 freestyle relay squad has the fourth fastest time in the country with a mark of 2:57.71.
  • Notre Dame sophomore Emma Reaney has a top-10 time in the country in three races. In the 100 breaststroke, she improved her mark to 1:01.20 to rank sixth among all NCAA swimmers. She ranks seventh in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:13.04 and is ninth in the 200 individual medley with a mark of 2:01.81.
  • Louisville freshman Kelsi Worrell has the ninth-best time in the country in the 100 butterfly with a 54.21-second mark. Notre Dame senior Kim Holden is right behind her with the 10th-best time of 54.46 seconds.
  • The Notre Dame women's 400 medley relay squad has the ninth-best time in the nation with a mark of 3:43.80.
  • The Louisville women's 800 freestyle relay team has a time of 7:33.68, which is the 10th-fastest time in the country.
  • Notre Dame and Louisville women ranked No. 18 and No. 19 respectively in the women's Oct. 31 CSCAA coaches' poll. Louisville ranked No. 16 nationally in the men's Oct. 23 CSCAA coaches' poll.
  • Notre Dame's men's team defeated No. 18 Purdue on Nov. 2, 156-144.
  • The meet at Rutgers featuring Connecticut, Georgetown, Rutgers and Villanova was postponed last week due to Superstorm Sandy and will be rescheduled.
