PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Notre Dame sophomore Frank Dyer has been selected BIG EAST Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week and Fighting Irish freshman Emma Reaney is the BIG EAST Women's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week.
Dyer had a hand in provisionally qualifying for six NCAA events and broke several records while participating in the Iowa Hawkeye Invitational. He set a school, pool and meet record while finishing first in the 200 freestyle in 1:35.58. This time sits as the nation's seventh-fastest time in the event. Dyer earned NCAA provisional times in three individual events, including the 500 free (4:22.28), the 50 free (20.22) and the 100 free (44.65). He also helped secure three relay B-cuts in the 200 free relay (1:20.80), the 200 medley relay (1:29.24) and the 400 free relay (44.65).
Reaney earned two top finishes and seven NCAA provisional qualifying times at the Ohio State Invitational. She finished first in the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.67, a meet and school record. Reaney broke the previous record of 2:00.09 in the preliminaries (1:58.47) and then re-broke it in the finals. She also topped the leaderboard in the 400 IM with a time of 4:12.19. Reaney's other NCAA provisional qualifying times were in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.21), the 200 breaststroke (2:12.37), the 400 medley relay (3:39.59), and 800 freestyle relay (7:21.79) and the 400 free relay (3:20.93).
The 2011-12 Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week honors will be awarded throughout the season when at least half of the teams are participating. The next weekly honors will be awarded on January 17.
