PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Notre Dame sophomore Greg Andrews was named BIG EAST Men's Tennis Player of the Week and DePaul freshman Jasmin Kling was named BIG EAST Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
Andrews recorded a combined eight victories for the Irish to lead the team to a 3-1 week with victories over No. 64 Northwestern, Wisconsin and IUPUI. He scored straight- set singles wins in all four matches, including a 6-3, 6-2 defeat of Kentucky's No. 13 Alex Musialek. In his last match of the week, Andrews dropped only one game to beat IUPUI's Luke Bielawski 6-0,6-1. The sophomore also teamed with Spencer Talmadge for four victories in doubles action. With his win over Musialek, Andrews improved to 3-1 on the year versus ranked opponents and has won 10 of his last singles matches in straight sets.
Kling produced two singles and two doubles victories in matches against Wisconsin and No. 37 N.C. State. In singles action, she took down Wisconsin's Hannah Berner in straight sets before defeated No. 40 Joelle Kissell of N.C. State 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. The win marked the first victory over a ranked opponent this season for Kling, who has won five of her last six singles matches. In doubles she teamed with Gia McKnight for two victories at the No. 1 position, only losing seven games between the two matches.
This is the first weekly honor for Kling and the second for Andrews.
