Louisville and Cincinnati Claim Tennis Weekly Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Louisville sophomore Sebastian Stiefelmeyer was named BIG EAST Player of the Week in men's tennis for the second consecutive week and the third time this year. Cincinnati junior Ashleigh Witte was named BIG EAST Player of the Week in women's tennis in the 11th weekly awards of the spring 2013 season.

 

Stiefelmeyer was 2-1 in singles play and 1-0 in doubles play in the No. 1 position. The Cardinals were 2-1 on the week with 7-0 wins against Dayton and Xavier. The sophomore defeated Aidan Koross of Dayton 6-1, 6-1 and Jimmy Roebker of Xavier 6-0, 6-1. In doubles action, Stiefelmeyer was paired with Van Damrongsri. The duo swept Dayton's Koross and Josh Malyon in the No. 1 spot 8-0.

 

Witte helped the Bearcats to a 7-0 win against Northern Kentucky and a 4-3 win against Xavier. The junior was 2-0 in singles play from the No. 3 position and 2-0 in doubles play from the No. 2 spot. Witte did not drop a set in singles or doubles against the Norse. She swept Shana Kleynen 6-0, 6-0 and won 8-0 in doubles with partner Sierra Sullivan. In the win against the Musketeers, the junior defeated Kally Alkire 6-3, 6-3 and won 8-3 in doubles play.
