Day One Complete At The Women's Tennis Championship

CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL

TAMPA, Fla. - Beneath pristine sunshine and warm temperatures, the 2013 BIG EAST women's tennis Championship kicked off on Thursday at the University of South Florida.

 

No. 2 seed USF shutout No. 15 seed Villanova 4-0 to begin the morning at the USF Varsity Courts, while No. 10 seed Pittsburgh had the only upset of the day as it knocked off No. 7 seed Georgetown 4-1. The marathon match lasted 3:43 minutes. Elsewhere, No. 8 seed Marquette topped No. 9 seed Cincinnati 4-0 on the P.E. Courts.

 

In the afternoon sessions, No. 3 seed Louisville defeated No. 14 seed Seton Hall 4-0 on the Varsity Courts, while No. 5 seed DePaul dispatched No. 12 seed Providence by the same result, 4-0 on the P.E. Courts. In addition, No. 4 seed Syracuse squeezed No. 13 seed Connecticut 4-0 on the Varsity Courts.  In the final result of the afternoon, No. 6 seed Rutgers slipped past No. 11 seed St. John's 4-2 on Andros Courts.
