NOTRE DAME, Ind. - No. 9 seed St. John's swept No. 8 Connecticut 4-0 Thursday during day one action at the 2013 BIG EAST Men's Tennis Championship hosted by the University of Notre Dame.


In doubles action, Michael-John Every and Mark Mozer claimed an 8-3 win in the No. 3 position followed by another 8-3 win by Vasko Mladenov and Hugo Morth from the No. 2 spot to take a 1-0 lead.


Mark Mozer, Michael-John Every and Valentin Mihal won their matches from the No. 5, 6 and 2 spots respectively to complete the sweep. Mozer and Every both won 6-0, 6-0 and Mihal claimed a 6-0, 6-4 deciding win.


The Red Storm advance in the tournament and will face top-seeded Notre Dame at 9 a.m.  Friday at the Courtney Tennis Center, weather permitting.
