TAMPA, Fla. - No. 1 seed Notre Dame captured its sixth-straight BIG EAST women's tennis championship following a 4-1 win over No. 2 seed USF on Sunday. The Irish were led by junior Britney Sanders who was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Performer.

It was the third straight year the teams have met for the league tournament title. Notre Dame has won its last three tournament crowns against the Bulls and six consecutive BIG EAST Championships in a row. In the history of the series, Sunday was the sixth time the squads have met for the BIG EAST title. ND has won five times against the Bulls, with USF winning one in 2007. Overall, Notre Dame has won 13 women's tennis titles since joining the league in 1995-96.

Notre Dame also won the BIG EAST men's tennis tournament title giving the Irish a tennis sweep.

Notre Dame played USF one week ago (on April 14), and earned a 5-2 win on the Varsity Courts at the USF campus. Sunday's title match took place at the same location.

In the third-place match this morning, No. 5 seed DePaul beat No. 3 seed Louisville 3-1. No. 4 seed Syracuse beat No. 8 seed Marquette 4-3 to finish in fifth-place. No. 9 seed Cincinnati rounded out Sunday's action with a 4-0 win over No. 7 seed Georgetown to finish in ninth place.
