PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Notre Dame (18-8) women's tennis team defeated N.C. State (14-10) 4-1 Friday in the first round of the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship at the University of Michigan Varsity Tennis Center in Ann Arbor, Mich. BIG EAST Player of the Year Brittany Sanders clinched the win from the No. 1 court for the No. 24 Irish against the No. 42 Wolfpack. Notre Dame advances to the second round to face either No. 10 Michigan or IPFW Saturday at 1 p.m. ET at the Varsity Tennis Center.
On the men's side, No. 28 Notre Dame (19-8) dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 37 Washington (18-11) at the Varsity Tennis Courts on the campus of Ohio State University. The team's season is finished but the BIG EAST Men's Tennis Player of the Year, No. 80 Greg Andrews, continues his 2013 campaign Wednesday, May 22 in first round action at the NCAA Singles Championship in Champaign, Ill.
