Notre Dame Women's Tennis Falls to Northwestern 4-2 in NCAA Second Round

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Notre Dame women's tennis team suffered a 4-2 loss to No. 13 Northwestern in the second round of the NCAA Women's Tennis Championship in Evanston, Ill., on Sunday.  The Irish end the season with a 21-8 record.
The 2012 BIG EAST Champions jumped ahead early, earning two doubles victories and securing the 1-0 advantage heading into singles competition.  The No. 8 ranked duo of seniors Kristy Frilling and Shannon Mathews downed Northwestern's No 85 Linda Abu Mushrefova and Veronica Corning 8-4 while sophomore Jennifer Kellner and junior Chrissie McGaffigan topped NU's Kate Turvy and Belinda Niu 8-5 to earn the point.

In singles action, Frilling, the 2012 BIG EAST Championship Most Outstanding Player, earned her team a point by coming from behind to beat Niu 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.  It wouldn't be enough, however, as the Wildcats picked up four singles to end the Irish's season for the second-consecutive year.
