Notre Dame's Greg Andrews Advances in NCAA Singles Championship Play

Greg Andrews of the Notre Dame men's tennis team and Brittany Sanders of the Notre Dame women's team competed in the first round of the NCAA Singles Championship Wednesday. Andrews, ranked No. 80 in the ITA Men's Singles Rankings, defeated No. 18 Jeremy Efferding of Texas A&M in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Urbana-Champaign, Ill. The junior, and two-time BIG EAST Player of the Year, advanced to the second round for the first time in his career. He will play No. 16 Ray Sarmiento of USC today at 12:30 p.m. ET.

No. 48 Sanders, the women's BIG EAST Player of the Year, was eliminated from the NCAA tournament Wednesday at the Atkins Tennis Center on the campus of Illinois. Sanders dropped her match in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 to No. 27 Zoe Scandalis of USC.  The junior finished the season with a 24-15 singles record and 15-12 mark in the No. 1 spot.
