Cincinnati's Fields and Rutgers' Plummer Named BIG EAST Field Athletes of the Week for Second Consecutive Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Cincinnati's Mackenzie Fields and Rutgers' James Plummer were named BIG EAST Field Athletes of the Week for the second-straight week. Connecticut sophomore Lauren Sara earned BIG EAST Women's Track Athlete of the Week honors and Notre Dame sophomore Chris Giesting was named BIG EAST Men's Track Athlete of the Week.

Fields finished first for the third straight week in the pole vault, recording a mark of 4.30m (14'1.25'') at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational last weekend. The senior's vault tops the league and is ranked seventh nationally. Fields broke the Gettler Stadium and Cincinnati program records for the outdoor pole vault in the process.

Plummer was named BIG EAST Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row after setting a Robins Stadium facility record and meet record of 60.72m in the discus at the Fred Hardy Invitational on March 28. The senior took first place, breaking the previous meet record by more than 10 meters. Plummer's mark is currently ranked first in the BIG EAST and third nationally.

Sara earned BIG EAST Women's Track Athlete of the Week accolades after finishing second in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 33:48.48 at the Raleigh Relays on March 29. The sophomore's time ranks first in the BIG EAST and 13th nationally.

Giesting finished first in the 400m (46.31) at the Stanford Invitational on March 29-30 to be named BIG EAST Men's Track Athlete of the Week. The sophomore also ran the second leg of the winning 4x400m relay team (3:06.71). Giesting's time in the 400m is currently the best in the league and ranks second nationally. His performance in the 4x400m relay helped the Fighting Irish rank eighth in the country.

According to the NCAA, "qualification to the [NCAA] championships is based on the descending-order list for the season...for each individual event contested, the top 16 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the competition. For each relay contested, the top 12 relay teams will be accepted into the competition...There are no qualifying standards for the championships season."
