Rutgers Sweeps BIG EAST Men's Track & Field Weekly Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Rutgers seniors Kevin Bostick and Monroe Kearns earned BIG EAST Men's Outdoor Track & Field awards after recording two first-place marks at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Va. Connecticut senior Victoria earned BIG EAST Women's Field accolades and Providence junior Laura Nagel was named BIG EAST Women's Track Athlete of the Week.

 

Bostick took first place in the triple jump at the Colonial Relays on April 6-7 with a mark of 15.24m. The jump is ranked third in the BIG EAST behind teammate Adam Bergo who ranks first with a mark of 15.33m. The senior was previously named BIG EAST Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week on Jan. 29.

 

Kearns was named BIG EAST Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week with a first-place finish in the 800m at the Colonial Relays. The senior crossed the line in 1:49.80 which ranks third in the league.

 

Flowers earned BIG EAST field honors for the fourth time in the 2012-13 season with two first-place marks in the shot put and hammer throw. The senior took first in the shot put with a toss of 15.76m and won the hammer throw with a mark of 60.08m. Flowers ranks second in the league in the shot put and first in the hammer throw.

 

Nagel recorded a meet and facility record in the 5,000m at the Colonial Relays with a time of 15:50.36. The junior finished first and is now ranked second in the league and sixth in the country in the event.

 

League teams are less than one month away from the 2013 BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Rutgers will host the conference championships in Piscataway, N.J., May 3-5.
