BIG EAST Teams Conclude Competition at IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championship

IC4A Final Results
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Connecticut men's track & field team, the 2011 BIG EAST Outdoor Track & Field Champions, led all BIG EAST teams with a sixth-place finish at the 2011 IC4A Outdoor Track & Field Championship. The Huskies totaled 38 points, while Rutgers placed 15th with 19 points and Pittsburgh finished 26th with 13 points. Also, two BIG EAST individuals took home event titles.
The Huskies were led by sophomore Mike Alleman, who claimed first in the shot put with a toss of 17.59 meters. The Huskies also had a top-three performance by senior Michael Rutt, who took second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:46.32. Sophomore Jesse Chapman placed fourth in the decathlon with 6,605 points.
Rutgers had the other BIG EAST event champion, as sophomore James Plummer won the discus with a throw of 57.35 meters. Plummer also was the BIG EAST discus champion. The Scarlet Knights earned points from the 4x400-meter-relay team of sophomore Kevin Brown, freshman Karon Purcell, junior Steve Werner and freshman Corey Caidenhead who finished sixth in a time of 3:13.34.
Pittsburgh finished 26th with 13 points. The Panthers were led by a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles by junior Jermaine Lowery. He clocked a time of 51.09 to finish 0.15 seconds behind Morgan State's Trey Charles.
The BIG EAST Men's Outdoor Track & Field teams will next compete at the NCAA East Regionals on May 26-28 in Bloomington, Ind.
