BIG EAST Reps Wrap Up at NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships

NEW YORK – The 2014 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships wrapped up Saturday at the University of Oregon in Eugene, with Villanova’s Emily Lipari leading the way with a fourth-place finish in the women’s 1,500 meters to pace the 17 BIG EAST student-athletes who competed.

Lipari posted a time of 4:19.60, exactly 1.5 seconds off the lead. Arizona State’s Shelby Houlihan won the race. Lipari’s Villanova teammate Angel Piccirillo took 12th in 4:27.66.

Nine of the 17 from the BIG EAST advanced to the finals of their respective events. In addition to Lipari and Piccirillo, Butler’s Mara Olson took 12th in the women’s 5,000 meters (16:11.58); Georgetown’s Rachel Schneider finished ninth in the women’s 1,500 meters (4:21.15); Georgetown’s Andrew Springer took 13th in the men’s 10,000 meters (29:41.96); Providence’s Laura Nagel (16:09.98) and Sarah Collins (16:25.97) finished 11th and 16th, respectively, in the women’s 5,000 meters; and Villanova’s Jordy Williamsz finished fifth in the 1,500 meters (3:40.25) and Patrick Tiernan took sixth in the men’s 5,000 meters (13:31.25).
