NEW YORK – A total of 10 BIG EAST student-athletes were named All-America by the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Monday, including six women and four men.
All-America status is determined by event finishes at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Top-eight finishers earn first-team laurels, while those from ninth to 16th are named to the second team.
Three student-athletes were named first-team All-America, all from Villanova. Patrick Tiernan and Jordy Williamsz earned it on the men’s side for finishing in the top eight in the 5,000 meters and 1,500 meters, respectively. Emily Lipari was the sole first-team selection on the women’s side after her fourth-place finish in the 1,500 meters, while Angel Piccirillo was a second-team nod after taking 12th in the same race.
Villanova finished with a BIG EAST-leading four All-America picks, followed by Georgetown with three (Max Darrah; Andrew Springer; Rachel Schneider), a pair from Providence (Sarah Collins; Laura Nagel) and one from Butler (Mara Olson).
