NEW ORLEANS – Forty-two BIG EAST track and field student-athletes recently earned All-Academic honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2013-14 season. A total of 25 women and 17 men from the conference were honored across eight institutions represented. Additionally, 12 BIG EAST track and field squads earned All-Academic Team distinction from the organization, including all eight of the conference’s women’s teams.

Georgetown led with tallies of nine women, six men and 15 overall, while Villanova had five men and three women for a total of eight. Providence had six selections overall, including four women.

In all, the USTFCCCA recognized 727 women and 496 men with All-Academic laurels. Butler’s Mara Olson was one of 39 women in Division I recognized who achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; or for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).


 

 

All-Academic Team awards are bestowed to squads who post a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
