The Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams finished its first meet of the season Friday afternoon at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Verona, Wis. The men placed third overall while the women finished fourth in the competition, a strong start to a promising season.
Redshirt senior, Spencer Agnew ran the best time for the men's squad with a seventh place finish overall with a time of 18:46 in the 6k race. Teammates Jack Senefeld (11th) and Andres Tineo-Paz (13th) took the second and third spots on the team with times of 18:57 and 19:13, respectively.
Sophomore's Cody Haberkorn (14th, 19:13) and David Sajdak (17th, 19:21), freshman Nate Gomoll (18th, 19:31) and sophomore Patrick Campbell (20th, 19:46) rounded out spots fourth through seventh for the Golden Eagles.
Kellie Green ran a 14:23 for the women to earn fifth place overall in her second year of competition as a Golden Eagle. Freshman Alison Parker made her Marquette debut in a big way, taking second on the team and eighth overall with a time of 14:29. Sophomore Kayla Spencer finished third on the and tenth overall with a time of 14:30.
Freshman Brittney Feivor (19th, 14:46) and Mariah Frank (24th, 15:03), and seniors Hannah Frett (28th, 15:11) and Rebecca Pachuta (29th, 15:13) took spots fourth through seventh for the squad.

For the next meet, the both teams will head to Notre Dame, Ind. where they will compete in the National Catholic Championships, Friday, Sept. 20 at the Burke Golf Course.
